Guest guest
It can be tough to eat out when you are animal conscious! We find places we know are " veggie intelligent " and then we can relax...or if we are at a regular place, we just deal with the possibility of...well, you know... One of our favorite places is a small family owned asian restaurant, she actually asks if you are vegetarian & want the fish/oyster sauces left out... Another sneaky thing is rennet in cheese...and as I think was mentioned red food coloring, which I don't like anyway, but I think some is made from beetles...don't know if it always says carmine, or if it is red in general. In a perfect world... m
Guest guest
very tough indeed, huh? I was at my nephew's bar mitzvah not too long ago. I was so happy when They came around asking about fish or beef, and I said vegetarian, they said ok fine. wow, they were gonna give me a vegetarian platter! and it looked so good, but ughhh. A big steamed portabella, with every essence of flavor removed, tasted like a rubber tire, or what I wood think a rubber tire would taste like, some string beans that were practically raw, sorry, I like my veggies cooked, not like overcooked, and I can eat raw veggies fine, with dip, but if you are gonna cook them, don't stop half way, and this stuff I think was couscous. more like sawdust. Oh well, at least they had a baked potato bar, but now with what I read here about sour cream, I think there may have been some flesh in my potato.. yuk <shudder> Blessings, Chanda - melissa_hopp Monday, March 28, 2005 1:30 PM Re: gelatin and other sneaky ingredients It can be tough to eat out when you are animal conscious!
