Guest guest
there are many different kinds of fasts, but i think juice fasts/liquid fasts are the most common. in these fasts, the body gets nutrition from the fruit and vegetable juices, broths, and herbal teas. the basic idea behind fasting (for health) is that the body spends alot of energy digesting food and even a short break from digestion lets the body use that energy for other things (like detoxification). after the fast, the body is better able to digest foods and utilize the nutrients from those foods. there are also many other positive effects from fasting. it increases energy, helps with congestion and allergies, it's wonderful for the skin, and makes for clearer thinking, etc...the list can go on and on. i believe fasting is natural....humans have been doing it for hundreds (and probably thousands) of years. historically, hunter-gatherers didn't eat three big meals a day...there were significant amounts of time between big meals....sounds like a natural form of fasting to me. furthermore, fasting is practiced in most cultures (although most of the time for spiritual reasons) modern humans overeat, don't eat well, are stressed, are exposed to all kinds of environmental toxins, take too much medication/drugs, smoke, drink, etc..... i think almost everyone could benefit from fasting. susie --- Chanda/Maria <puterwitch wrote: > heck no. it's not natural. the body needs nutrition. > To fast is going against what the body and mind need > to function.
