Guest guest
Yesterday evening I chopped up- 1/2 a big white onion 2 carrot sticks 2 celery stalks 2 tomatoes 1 jalapeno 4 medium sized potatoes 4 big bulbs of garlic 1 handful of cilantro so that I could add it this morning to the crockpot. I placed plenty of water in there with the above mentioned ingredients. A couple of hours ago when I got in I decided to add the spices. 1 1/2 tablespoon jarred ginger, minced 1 1/2 tablespoon better than bouillon veggie jarred paste a few red pepper flakes a few shakes of garlic powder oh and a can of garbanzos and close to a half a small jar of this garam masala that I picked up awhile back on clearance for .99 . My point of this post is that NOW I see what the big fuss is about! This stuff smells and tastes incredible (when I first poured it in the soup, it smelled so goood - then I test tasted the liquid and yum)!! I've had several masalas before (and have some different packets currently in the fridge) but I've never tried garam. I've always heard how good it is and now I see why. lol I had been contemplating on whether to put in some coconut milk that I've had forever in the cupboard (I've only had one coconut milk thai type of dish and it was pretty darn good but really rich). Now I know I don't want to because I'm afraid of ruining this garam flavor. As well, I usually don't like my place smelling like food when cooking (though kinda hard to avoid) but this is a big exception. It almost smells like a flower or something. Someone bottle this stuff up, overprice it, slap a celebrity's name on it and stock it at the perfume/cologne counter! Are there any other fans of this spice mixture? Guest guest
Yes! I don't cook enough with it and I tend to be tentative when adding it. Also, ours may be stale as I don't recall an intense odor. I'll have to invest in some fresh garam masala. I have used it with coconut milk and it still tastes really good, Coconut milk, to me, doesn't have an overly strong flavor. In fact, it's kind of tasteless.
