Guest guest
I really don't do much of a measurement thing here since I make it all the time and kind of invented this. I use the 14-16 oz. can of totatoes and when I add water it's about 3/4 or 1cup and the TVP is usually the small chunks but the granules work fine. I buy mine from the Mail Order Catalog site I emailed the group. The Bob's Red Mill is good too. I use about 1/2 cup or so of the TVP. The TVP usually does pick up a darker color but you can saute the garlic and onion and then add a little water to the pan and a bit of soy sauce with the dray granuales before you put the tomatoes and water on the pot and the soy sauce will darken the TVP......Enjoy, Donna ~ PT ~ <patchouli_troll wrote: That sounds very good, Donna. About how much tvp do you add to that much liquid? Also, i noticed the Bob's Red Mill TVP is quite pale brown in color, sort of tan. i was wondering if it browns up or if you have to add browning liquid to it to give that color that products like MSF crumbles have? Thanks. ~ pt ~ To be idle is a short road to death and to be diligent is a way of life; foolish people are idle, wise people are diligent. ~ Buddha ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~> replying to this digest post: GeminiDragon <thelilacflower Re: Bob's Red Mill TVP; was: Re: sloppy joes - tvp substitute I love to sautee onion and garlic, add some water, toss in the TVP and a can of the Italian or Mexican flavored stewed tomatoes and cook about 20 minutes. Serve over rice or in the center of mashed potaoes... It's heaven.
