Guest guest
This weekend I am going to an annual conference by the Iowa Network for Community Agriculture. It's a group dedicated to sustainable agriculture and supporting the local farmers. This year's conference is called " Blazing the White Pole Road " from farm, to fork, to fitness. Some of the workshops available are: How to cook with local food Organic research and related issues Growing food and profit Community gardens Innovative farmers' markets Adding value to locally produced goods Ensuring food security by strengthening & expanding local food systems On New Year's Eve we were having a nice day and on a walk I came upon a neighbor. " Don't get many walkers around here, " he said. After a bit of conversation he told me his wife is involved with a local food co-op. He, himself, is an organic soy bean farmer. Well her and her friend stopped by my office a week ago and told me about this organization and their co-op (United Natural Foods, Inc). I believe this is going to be a great way for James and I to make like-minded friends. For those of you who live in areas not populated by many vegetarians I encourage you to seek out any organizations such as this one. Although not everyone is vegetarian, they do believe in organic methods and supporting local farmers, not factory farms. Donna - you may want to pass on this info to your friend who lives in eastern Iowa. Also, the food co-op I'm going to join has a warehouse in Iowa City, so she might be able to find a group of people closer to her to join.
