Hi,

Vegemite is a very salty tasting spread and not sweet (it is a savoury

spread). Marmite and Promite are similar but different tastes. I swapped

over to Promite because it is a bit less salty but I will still eat

Vegemite

on occassions. If you add Promite (a level teaspoon) to a cup of hot

(near boiling

water) you get a sort of vegetarian beef tea (or stock). You can also

add a teaspoon

to soups you are making. I tried doing the same with Marmite once but

that tasted

horrible.

When my Grandmother was alive I lived with her for a while and she had

a British spread that a lot of people there had as a staple like we had

vegemite. I cant remember the name but it had a strong flavour. May have

had anchovies or something in it.

Kind regards,

M.

The British equivalent to vegemite is marmite - we spread it on

toast - it is definitely stronger - I prefer it over vegemite, but

guess it's cuz I'm British. And yes - it is an acquired taste as

I've been repeatedly told!!
