Guest guest
Hi, I agree with Rick about taking a B12 supplement. It is cheap and essential. If you want to choose not to take the supplement then fine that is your choice. Incidentally, I know a vegan doctor who takes b12 supplement and he should know. Finally, if you want to know how your B12 level is, get a blood test. A heamotologist told me mushrooms were a good source of b12 but I read elsewhere When you wash them you lose a lot of b12. Rick, a young family member of mine went to a specialist because of a problem and one test they did was a b12 test. My young family member had a very low b12 level which would have been very dangerous if it had not been detected. I was shocked. Now we all take the b12 supplements. Re my young family member, what followed were several painful b12 injections (spaced 1 or 2 weeks apart, I cant remember, under doctor's supervision, and a follow up blood test where the b12 was so high I phoned the hematologist to ask if this was safe (I was really worried). Some people can also develop a condition where they cant absorb b12 and have to have regular injections and some seem to be born with that condition. I know an elderly lady who has regular b12 injections. If you have children, don't fool with their health. Talk to your family doctor about b12 supplements especially if you are vegetarian/vegan. Lack of b12 over a long period of time is extremely serious and can cause serious damage to the nervous system and body organs. We eat stuff with b12 in it by the way and it obviously wasn't enough. Just my two cents worth (and a timely reminder for another b12 test for our family just to make sure everythings ok). Kind regards, Marguerite
