Klara/Latkes

Klara & others, hi ~

That vegetable heavenly drink..... does not sound so appealing to

me..... But okay, maybe I should try it. So it is 1/4 cup each of the

ingredients, or all together 1/4? I ask just to be sure.

Sorry, Dorith,

I need to clarify here - the sweet vegetable drink as I had described it is a

macro remedy for two purposes: one when a person is feeling very wound up, it

relaxes and 2) when trying to get off sweets for health reasons, it satisfies

the sweet urge.

I mentioned before the reason I love macrobiotics is because of its emphasis on

creating balance. I also very very much love the food. But when one eats less

and less what we call extreme foods, very sweet or salty, highly spiced (hot) or

foods that for us are on the extreme of yin and yang (meats, milk and their

products, eggs, liquor, medicines, nighshades, tropical foods) then one finds

alot of changes going on in them, health, temperment, a whole array of issues

seem easier to deal with.

So the recipe above may not be heaven for you, Dorith. It works for me because

it does relax me and it does decrease my need for sweets. But for someone who

still enjoys the stronger tastes but would like some of those healing qualities,

a different proportion might be heaven for you. Ages ago, when I didn't realize

what I do now, I'd take lots of onions, carrots, cabbage and pumpkin (the

sweeter the better) and would add water only to barely cover the vegetables.

This strained liquid I think would be sweet for you, maybe also heaven for you.

That might be a better choice. If your diet is what we call " clean " (just the

vegetables, maybe a pinch of salt, not too much else - tho there are many

ingredients we do use that has loads of flavor: ginger, lemon, soy sauce,

umeboshi, rice vinegar and umeboshi vinegar) but these ingredients are used so

as not to overwhelm the main food) then you could decrease the amount of

vegetables and increase the water til it approaches what I first

said, 1 cup of vegetables (1/4 cup each vegetable) and I was told 4 cups water

- I'm still at 3 cups of water - my diet's not that clean yet :>).

Hope that helps.

Klara

Re: Digest Number 1074

1/4 c. of each vegetable (onions, carrots, cabbage, pumpkin) plus 3

or 4 c. of water. Blend it and simmer for 1/2 an hour.

I didn't have pumpkin today but used sweet potato with a little

tamari instead - it was good too.

or try this link

method=reportRows & tbl=1

Hi Judy,

That was sweet of you (pun intended) to post the recipe.

But the recipe I shared was a little different. The vegetables are NOT blended

or even eaten. Only the liquid is drunk after the vegetables are drained. All

the sweetness is taken from the vegetables and cooked into the liquid. Again,

this is a fine point and may be of interest only to those on a macrobiotic diet

who wish to effect more calmness into their lives, or to get off sweets. Also

as the point is to be sweet, we don't put either salt or tamari into it. Of

course all variations I'm sure would be tasty. My point was more the effect of

the food.

Thanks.

Klara
