Just my 2c, but:

This article sounds like the misinformation sonsored by the various meat and

dairy corporations. I was fed on soy formula because I could not digest the

milk based formula my sister was fed. I have always been very healthy, and had

a strong immune system, while she is sickly and has allergies to all sorts of

things, as well as struggling with ear infections when she was young. I have

been a vegetarian since the early 90's (became one in sixth grade), and eat soy

like my car uses gas. I have had no adverse effects, and eat soy in all forms,

soymilk, edamame, tofu, protein isolate, oil, soynuts, etc. When my mother was

diagnosed with osteoporosis, she stopped drinking milk, started on soymilk, and

her bone mass has INCREASED. She now eats very little meat, no dairy, and lots

of soy. My sister also discovered that she is " allergic " to commercial meat and

dairy (due to hormonal imbalances), and has no problems with soy. She does not

have problems with seafood or " hunted " meats,

like venison (from my grandparents :P). My other sister and little brother

begged my mom for cow milk, she relented, and they subsequently developed

serious infections. This might sound like a coincidence, but I do believe milk

has immunity lowering properties. The article also failed to discuss the

harmful effects of eating meat, fish, eggs, dairy, which I believe far outweigh

any damaging effects of soy and further lead me to believe that the article is

meat and dairy industry propaganda.

If you see the movie " The Corporation " you may never drink milk

again.

I was too. :) I turned out okay. Trust me, with all my klutziness, if I had

weak bones, I would KNOW!

My parents pushed milk on me as a kid despite my allergy. I can't tell you

how many problems disappeared when I quit!

I think it's also important to note that while soy is somewhat " new " to the

U.S., it has been widely used in other countries for thousands of years.
