Question re bananas

Hi,

I usually buy bananas at the supermarket and I believe they have really

good health qualities. For example, I care for my elderly mother who is

83 and has a banana and yoghurt for part of her breakfast every day.

She said to me years ago that bananas have special qualities, are good

for nerves and lots of other things. Her health is very good for her

age.

My only concern about bananas is that someone told me the authorities

gas the bananas to make them ripen?? or for some reason and I wondered

if

anyone new about that. I wonder if organic bananas are subject to the

same

process and if the " gassing " happens in all countries? Any info much

appreciated.

Kind regards,

Marguerite

Greetings Marguerite...

Yes they do gas the bananas here in Oz, sadly.

If you want ungassed bananas, the cheepest place that I know of to get spray

free and organic fruit and vegies is at the rear of the fruit and vegie section

of the Fremantle markets, there are local growers their that sell wonderful

produce at a good price. The bananas, and other items, I have bought from their

have been lovely and full of flavour.

3 cashiers at different markets told me they gas the bananas and it's a gross

thing to see. I don't know anything about it or if it's dangerous or not. I

usually buy my bananas now from Whole Foods or Trader Joe's organic.
