Guest guest
Just what the subject line says, I'm a new member saying hi. My name is Josie and I'm from central New Jersey. I've been a vegetarian for about six years. I started out not eating any meat, fish, or poultry, but then I started eating meats again sparingly (just the ones that are no good for me anyway, like hot dogs, cheeseburgers, and chicken nuggets...I can see you all cringing, lol..). Now I've found a balance that seems the most comfortable for me for the forseeable future. I eat chicken, and that's about it out of meat, poultry, and fish. Very rarely, maybe twice a year or so, I do still eat a hot dog, more out of habit than because of taste, though. I have always eaten eggs and dairy products, for the record. I've found that there are two main setbacks when it comes to being a vegetarian. 1. The price of " health " alternative foods and/or meat " substitutes " , etc. and 2. The availability of these things (in grocery stores, or at group functions, etc. I've been to quite a few catered events where the vegetarian meal was simply a regular meal with the fish taken off, etc. (and 3., if this counts... That fact that it actually takes time to cook healthy meals, vegetarian or otherwise, and I'm promising myself to really take the time to eat healthier. In reality, just because you're eating vegetarian does not mean you're eating healthier, and eating healthy is something I really need to work on. Translation: Carbs are good, lol.) Anyway, that's enough ranting and babbling for now. Look forward to reading posts and talking with you guys. Good night and take care everyone. -Josie
