Guest guest
I got this recipe of of list and really liked it! If you don't have a pressure cooker or steamer, I think you could easily cook the lentils separately on the stove, then add everything together to simmer for a bit. I substituted V-8 for the tomato juice on accident, not even realizing they were different, and it was really yummy. Like a tomato soup with a sweet curry undertone. Amanda Rama's Lentil Soup (Dal) 3/4 cup black lentils (turtle beans) 3/4 cup black eyed peas 24 ounces water 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1/2 teaspoon turmeric 1 teaspoon cumin seed 1 tablespoon oil 2 tablespoons coriander powder 1/2 teaspoon ground hot pepper -- optional 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 2 tablespoons dried onions 2 cups tomato juice This recipe is done in a pressure cooker, but can also be made in a crock pot and cooked all day. Wash beans and place in the pressure cooker, with the water, salt and turmeric. Cook for 30-40 minutes. Cool under running water. In a small pan, heat oil, put the cumin seeds in the oil and heat till they turn red. Add oil cumin mixture and remaining ingredients to the pressure cooker, heat through, simmer 5-10 minutes.
