Documentaries Art Form, Not Journalism

Read Fast Food Nation if you think SUPERSIZE ME is anything other than

dead on, and if it's got a viewpoint, that doesn't make it " manipulative "

only determined.

Opinions are perfectly acceptable in documentaries -- they aren't sold as

dispassionate, balanced, fair journalism but are, instead, a personal

statement of the documentary makers.

It's an art form for that very reason.

The true value of a human being can be found in the degree

to which he has attained liberation from the self.

I think opinions are perfectly acceptable in

documentaries. What I object to is presenting

information in such a way as to obscure part of it.

That's not the same thing as " having a viewpoint. "

As for " Supersize Me " being " anything other than dead

on " , that depends on what particular part of the film

you refer to. I think the movie was a good wake up

call for a lot of people, and I think that eating

" fast food " is obviously unhealthy. So yes, that's

" dead on. "
