Guest guest
I was just looking at some fun vegetarian cook books on Gutenberg (which for anyone who doesn't know is older books out of copyright). Now obviously all of these recipes are not " slimming " , but the majority of them are not too bad; they focus on a few basic ingredients for each recipe. No tofu or tofutti, no mixes, just a few common ingredients for each recipe, along with general instructions how to prepare them. I generally download the non-zipped html file, if there is one. Plain text otherwise. Doctor Allinson's http://www.gutenberg.org13887/ The Healthy Life http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/10632 Science in the Kitchen (Kellogg) http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/12238 Reform Cookery http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/11067 Cassell's Vegetarian Cookery http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/14594 Vaughn's Vegetable Cookbook http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/22829 Some of them use a few terms that are more obscure now, but hopefully they are explained or can be figured out. For example, " nutter " refers to nut butter. Hope someone else enjoys these as much as I do! Pam

Wow, thanks for these links! I love looking at old cookbooks and I'm especially excited to have a look at Kellogg's book since I've read so much about him and his sanitarium. Isn't it funny that the food company started by one of the leading proponents of natural health now produces one of the most unhealthy lines of processed foods? I wonder if Mr. Kellogg would roll over in his grave to hear about Frosted Flakes, Froot Loops and Cocoa Krispies?! Thanks for the books!
