Guest guest
Hi group, Some of the group members had a question about purines. High levels of uric acid in certain kind of food. High purine foods in a diet can increase uric acid levels in the body. Therefore, the gout diet usually limits food with high purine. The excess uric acid builds up in the blood stream and forms crystals in the joints and soft tissues. Food that are rich in purines are : Red meat All kinds of sea/ shell food. Organ meat such as liver, kidneys, heart. and some plant based foods too. such as Spinach, cabbage cauliflower Certain types of beans. In plant based food, the concentration of purines is not too much, and can be managed by flushing out the purines with good amount of fluid intake. Hope this answers the question. Though my medical condition is very very mild. I took it as a wake up call and turned vegetarian. I would appreciate if someone can find some good veg recipes for me.
