Guest guest
Hi Anna (and everyone else too!!) Thanks for the best wishes. As an expat Aussie now living in Holland I still find it strange to be celebrating Christmas and new Year in winter. It is just bedlam here at the moment and it's only 4 p.m. The Dutch go quite crazy with fireworks on New Year's Eve and the noise at midnight is quite unbelievable. There is supposedly a ban on letting fireworks off until the evening of 31st December and it is supposed to stop by 2 a.m. The reality is that it has been building up gradually from the beginning of November and will go on unabated for at least another week. Apparently over € 60 has been spent on legal fireworks this year and that isn't taking the illegal homemade ones (estimated at approximately 2/3 of the total) into account. I think if the Dutch government tried to ban fireworks there would be a civil war (LOL) as the tradition of fireworks on 31st December is so much part of the Dutch way of life. I don't think the big public displays such as the one in Sydney would ever be accepted by the Dutch as a suitable alternative. Best wishes to you for 2008 from the time warp zone where it is still 2007. Hugs from Marie Coop <rodstruelove wrote: Ah, well you see, you¹re living in the past! Here in Australia it¹s already 2008!
