Guest guest
I have been vegetarian for about 4 years now - went from ovo-lacto to ovo and then this last year, to vegan. I had only been vegan a couple of weeks when I had my annual physical exam and was sent out for my normal annual bloodtests and since I was now vegan, my doctor thought that it would be wise to get a benchmark reading on my B12 levels. I never heard back so I figured everthing was okay. I started B12 about 2 months ago since I am really trying to buckle down on my diet before the holidays and when I saw my doctor last week for an eye infection, she wanted to know why I hadn't come in regarding my B12 defciency. I told her that I didn't get a call and she was a bit peeved with her staff. ANYWAYS, I told her that I had started taking B12 and she inferred that she has all of her vegetarian patients take it. I was really surprised. I had just become vegan at the time and had eaten my fair share of the " enriched " vegetarian for the 3 year preceeding the blood test and I may not have eaten eggs alone but I was eating them in recipes. I wonder how much " enriched " soy stuff you would have to eat to keep your B12 stable? Sorry for going on. Stef Argue not with dragons, for thou art crunchy and go well with brie.
