Not a vegetarian, but I gave up cooking and ordering beef, chicken and pork a little over a year ago after reading a book by Jane Goodall that described factory farming. I do eat quite a bit of fish. I've found I don't miss the land animals and actually feel a little repulsed by the thought of eating a fatty meat meal. My husband and two children eat whatever away from home, but here I do the cooking and shopping and avoid animal products except for special occasions (such as hamburgers on Labor Day).
