Guest guest
Hey! Good to hear all the sincere efforts to be vegetarian. It really helped me to become vegetarian by getting involved with a group that was strictly vegetarian. Here are some pitfalls you may encounter.: *You may encounter the desire to eat meat again. This may be due to your being hungry perhaps for protein. What worked for me was to seek out some vegetarian protein/food when and if that desire happens to pop up. There are certainly enough ads in our face every day. *You may encounter the question of finding a vegetarian alternative regarding medicine and health care. Some may say " I don't want to be a martyr " . In other words, some would prefer to consume medicine made with nonvegetarian gelatin than to risk their health. There are veggie caps available. Regarding over-the-counter medicines there are " caplets " which do not use any gelatin capsules. [This advice is not meant to take the place of your professional doctor's advice. But, it is your right to get a second opinion. ] *How about, " I am pregnant and so I have to eat eggs, meat, or etc " ? Science has proven that we can get all nutrition from vegetarian food sources. The internet now has so much information available. Just use your search engines such as www. to look these sites up. Tofu is very high protein, low gas, and considered of special health value to women. Try nuts and seeds which if raw will provide you with extra vitamins such as " E " . [This advice is not meant to take the place of your professional doctor's advice. But, it is your right to get a second opinion. ] *Can my baby, my infant be vegetarian? Check with your health care proffesionals, but modern scientific research has proven that you can all nutrition from vegetarian sources. Too many people have a baby not being fully aware of what is involved in the care of an infant. If you can get on the internet then look up information on this. I have been one only since Jan. 1. I figured it was a great way to start out the new year. I did some reading on how to eat first. I feel so good since doing this. I was having health issues and don't have them anymore. I am also the only one in my family that eats this way. Trust me after you do this a while the thought of meat will no longer appeal to you. Just hang in there. Like you, I have thought about doing this before but wasn't sure if I could. It is really easy though. Guest guest
Regarding vegetarian infants/babies, I would just caution that if you are not breastfeeding, please ensure that your formula has a source of DHA or you supplement it somehow. Most DHA will be non-veg sources (fish), but it is needed for brain development. My veg infant was bottle-fed (adopted) before the formula companies started adding DHA to the formulae, and it certainly did not help his issues to be deprived of DHA and other essential fatty acids he needed. He seems to need quite a bit more EFA's than the average child, and starts showing deficiency symptoms within three days any time he goes off of his supplements.
