Guest guest
Thanks so much for alerting us to this podcast - really great - and I guess now you too are on the way to improving your health, eh? Not the same thing, but my dh has had high bloodpressure - very high - for some 26 years and has had to be medicated for it, of course. Neither of us has problems with cholesterol or triglycerides, and my own bloodpressure is around 90 over 65, give or take 5. Nevertheless, with diabetes in my family, I think I have to watch diet pretty carefully. We were both already vegans on a low-fat, pretty health-conscious diet, but didn't go as far as some think is needed to be healthy. So to try things out, in January we went on a nearly fat-free, nearly salt-free diet with no processed foods and no white grains, etc., increasing our consumption of vegetables and adding in more raw food than usual for us. Ornish, McDougall and Barnard would approve. This was for my dh's bloodpressure. It was weird for the first couple of weeks, then a cinch after that. True. As of this last week, I'm ready to report back to the group. In February my dh's bloodpressure had dropped so that his dr halved his meds, from 10 mg dose of his meds to 5 mg. It continued to drop, so that in March he was put on a 2.5 mg dose. It continued to drop. It was low enough the last time he went (90 over 62) that the dr took him off his meds altogether. First time in 26 years! And me? Oh I lost the 10 kg and a bit more and am looking to drop a couple more before summer's over So these dietary guidelines are good for a lot of things - including the general sense of wellbeing, which has improved for both of us! Best love, Pat
