Guest guest
Well, I am back from the first of two trips (almost 600 miles one way) to Louisiana. The next one is about 12 days. I brought food with me on the trip, and this worked to some degree to have fresh fruit, rice cakes, fresh veggies, approrpriate bread and such, but the problem came up that I wound up eatting out more often than I was expecting. The worst day was Friday when I was attending a rehersal dinner. It was at one of the most popular seafood restaurants in the area, and well, it was sheer torture to watch people eat the things that I used to be able to eat and cannot eat, and then to have to smell all of that and see people eatting that..... it just got to me to the degree where I had to leave the room for a while and get away from it all. The kitchen staff was good and prepared the food the way I requested when I explained I had food allergies, but it was the presence of all of this forbidden food that really got to me. I don't know if anyone really understands how this feels, but it was torture. However, I did well with this and avoided another similar incident at my parents home later after the wedding by getting out of the house to go to Whole foods and not be around the situation. My parents were understanding, but I guess that other people are not. My son who had not seen me since Christmas did not recognize me when I drove up to his dad's house (he's 22) Since I saw him in December, I lost 40 pounds and he's never seen me this size, so that was kind of funny. He was extremely supportive of me so when I left the rehearsal dinner he came out there to check on me. I believe the next trip will be much better. I won't be in such intense social situations where food seems to be the rule, and will be able to cook more appropriately and hopefully show my parents some healthy alternatives. Thank you for your caring, Cece ______________________________\ ____ Looking for earth-friendly autos? Guest guest
Hi Hon, and thanks for reporting back. You say you - > wound up eatting out more often than I was expecting. Oh doesn't that always happen. You plan for one contingency, and it's always the unplanned that occurs. But now you'll know how to cope with both for next time > The worst day was Friday . . . at one of the > most popular seafood restaurants in the area, and .. . . it was the presence of all of this > forbidden food that really got to me. > > I don't know if anyone really understands how this > feels, but it was torture. Er, yeah. We do. I doubt if there is anyone here who is vegetarian or vegan who hasn't experienced that. Sometimes we want the forbidden, later (speaking for myself now) we are disgusted by it, but it is still distressing. Sometimes just _talking_ about it is upsetting/tempting/disgusting or all of the above and maybe more. So you're not alone here. Now you can put that behind you, knowing you can weather that discomfort, and carry on. Atta girl!!!! > My parents were understanding . . . Good! > , , , but I guess that other people are not. Who cares? Real friends would understand or at least not be judgemental, critical. The rest you can ignore. But hey!!!! It must have been a buzz to see your son's surprise! (And you must have surprised some others too! - whether they said so or not.) >My son who had not > seen me since Christmas did not recognize me when I > drove up to his dad's house (he's 22) > Since I saw him in December, I lost 40 pounds and he's > never seen me this size, so that > was kind of funny. 40 pounds since Christmas - Wow - Congratulations! And his pleasure and support must have been worth all the rest of the problems, eh? Good for him - and good for you. Bouquets to you!!!! Thanks for sharing. Love, Pat
