Questionnaire for new members: Beth

VEGETARIAN SLIMMING QUESTIONNAIRE

Please tell us a little about yourself so we can know

you a bit better:

To get you started, why not tell us:

* your name or nickname: Beth

* where you live (continent, region or city, whatever): San Antonio, TX

* your age group - teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s,: 41

70s, 80s or more (congratulations!)?

Also:

* Are you are vegetarian (or vegan), still working at

it, or still thinking about it? How long? I became a vegetarian this past year,

teetering on vegan

* Are you the only veggie or wannabe in your

household? How many others? I'm not the only one who will eat the veggie meal,

but I think I'm the only one who has give up meat totally

* Do you do the cooking or is it shared? shared

WAIT! Anything else you would like to tell us? This is your

Big Chance!!!

I started last year being a good 100 lbs overweight. I have a bad back (broke it

in the military) and had become very sedentary. I decided that I had to do

something. I picked up a book (Dr. McDougall) that talked about vegan lifestyle.

I thought it was way too strick, that I would never be able to follow such a

lifestyle. I started with one bad habit, worked on it untill I felt it was gone

(or a new habit had cemented) and moved on the the next item I wanted to work

on. A few months later I pulled out that Dr. McDougall book again, and realized

I had given up pork, beef, and chicken, and was eating little fish, eggs or

dairy. So now the idea of vegetarian seemed attainable. I've been working my way

to vegan since (cheese still seems to be the hardest thing to give up - though I

only have once every other week or so...). The change in eating habits, along

with discovering a recumbant stationary bike (easy on my bad back) I lost 58 lbs

since Jan 1 of this year. The new year looks brig

t all like a diet - it turely is a new way of eating that I don't see going back

on (recently had a bite of beef and thought I would throw up - all I kept

thinking was how the texture felt like flesh). I look forward to meeting new

people to share the good and bad of this struggle with.

Hi Beth ~

Welcome to our group. I think you are spot on when you say weight loss is not

about " dieting " ; it has to be a change of habits/lifestyle. Sounds like you're

doing great!! I like the idea of battling one habit at a time and trying to

replace the bad ones with good ones.

I am doing Weight Watchers and have lost about 25 pounds total (actually I've

lost 20 sicne doing WW but lost 5 prior to getting on board with their program).

I'm happy with my progress and even more pleased with the smaller portions and

healther meals my partner and I are making.

Congratulations, Beth! That is awesome! I am also a Dr. McDougall fan (why I

went from semi-veg to vegan), but weight loss is much slower since I'm only a

few lbs. overweight.

Welcome,

Coleen
