I am a new member but just wanted to say that I saw no put downs or loutish

behaviour here at all, and I appreciate all the views expressed, and agree

totally with what Graham has said on this subject. And of course eating

fish is bad for the fish, how could it be otherwise? :-(. Humans do not

need animal flesh (fish included) to survive, and even if I was told

tomorrow that I needed to eat salmon, chicken, beef or whatever, for medical

reasons, I would have to say " tough, I will find another way " . If others

choose to see it differently, so be it, but this is a vegetarian list, so

the views expressed will of course be mainly those of strict vegetarians,

which does not include the eating of fish.

I think it needs to be remembered that a vegetarian is a vegetarian, be they

ovo, lacto, or whatever, and someone who eats fish is not a vegetarian. I

have a family member who is a pescatarian but calls himself a vegetarian,

this is something that really bothers me because it causes so many

misconceptions in the omnivorish world ( " oh, I thought vegetarians ate

fish " . " vegetarians eat fish, it is vegans that don't " ) and I am constantly

frustrated when eating out to find salmon, shrimp, seafood etc under the

" vegetarian option " . But that is another issue entirely.

I am sorry to weigh in here but it is something I feel strongly about and

while I am not knocking anyone personally, as a member of a vegetarian list,

I cannot be surprised if people express views that appear to be gently

anti-the-eating-of-fish (and not personal at all, but about the effects of

fish eating generally), but I am sure there was no offence intended, just as

there is none with this post, and I apologise in advance, if it is read

differently.

Re: Say hello! " PESCATARIAN????? "

No put down intended. I don't want to start a flame war.

I just see no reason for the killing of animals. I have never heard of any

health benefits for us and certainly not them.

The Omega 3 postings (flax & nuts) are important. Certainly the " fish is

brain food " theory " of the 50's has finally been understood to be Omega 3.

If I have been a lout expressing my concern, I apologize to those upset.

However, I prefer to see the fish swimming in what remains of our oceans,

seas, lakes, rivers, and streams.
