Guest guest
I am " for the moment " a stay at home mom and I am trying really hard to get the kids to eat more healthy. My son, in particular loves the typical hot dogs, corn dogs, hamburgers, etc. and I do not serve them very often. I have opened several cook books with lots of pictures for them to view. The cook books featured a huge section on vegetable dishes. Lots of them looked appealing to me as an adult, but to them they just said " yuk " . I must say, though, they like chinese food. The stir frys, the veg egg rolls and such are a big hit, but what else will kids eat that is not " " fast food " or from a box? I do not want to spend hours in the kitchen and then have them complain or simply not eat it. The lecturing does not work. My son has borderline high cholesteral and it is such a struggle to get him to eat healthy. I have had to take drastic measures to get him to " move " . Cancelled the t.v. service for 3 months, limited the computer useage, got a dog for him to walk, got him a bike. He is walking more, cycling more and of course not watching t.v. and playing video games or using the computer as much. The food is an issue. He keeps saying " if you served the food I liked, then I would eat it " However, I am still strugggling to find out what hewill eat that is healthy, etc. Anyone who has ideas, let me know. Guest guest
Teach him how to cook. Get 2-3 cookbooks with healthy recipes and let him chose which ones he wants to cook. My sisters and I were lucky we were taught how to do " boys " things backin the 60's and 70's such as how to change the oil in our cars. My brother was short changed, he was not taught " girly " thing like cooking. It was much harder for him to learn to cook as an adult with children. Guest guest
CONGRATULATIONS to you for DOING all those things!!! It's often hard to follow through. Just explain what could happen if eating habits aren't changed (horrible flashbacks to " Honey, We're Killing The Kids " - ugh) My kids will usually eat what's served. Tonight, they really did NOT like what I made & my 9yo finally decided (at 9:30pm) that she'd eat an egg. I think if you find something not TOO off the wall, & present it as 'this is what's for dinner' - and that's that, they might eat what's served instead of telling you they won't like it because it's not the usual stuff. Thye won't starve themselves! Just keep trying stuff. I roast veggies & they'll fight over Brussels sprouts & cauliflower. I roast tofu in little cubes so it's more like croutons - we don't care for the soft, kinda soggy texture. It's hard to go wrong w/pasta. Just load up w/veggies & top off w/parmesan. And hey, with either pasta or tofu, the secret is in the sauce. HAHAHAHAHAHAAAA aren't I just the wittiest tonight??? Good luck!
