Guest guest
What are people giving to their kids these days as an after school snack? My kids love the traditional peanut butter sandwich on bread. They also like apple slices with peanut butter as the dip. Pita bread and plain yogourt is a favorite as well. I would love to hear any other simple ideas.
Guest guest
Hi there, I don't have kids yet (expecting my first) but i am a teacher. It makes me so sad to see how many children get given chocolate bars immediately after school. I mean, before they have even left the playground! All too often i have gone to talk to a parent about a child's recurrent bad behaviour only to discover the parents have already handed the child a chocolate bar or sweets and they're halfway through or even finished (whilst running circles around their parents and shouting) before i can even say " Can i have a word please? " . (Rant over) It's really nice to hear there are people giving children wholesome, nutritious snacks instead of junk food. I'd love to hear anymore ideas people have. Guest guest
Well we Homeschool and my kids are grazers. They eat a little bit here and there most of the day. So I guess everything they eat could be considered a snack. Right know their favs are broccoli, cauliflower, celery (especially the leaves), popcorn and 100% organic fruit leather. PB & J is popular too. I make my own bread so it can be as much organic as I can get and I make jam in my bread maker based on what is in season. My oldest also likes homemade yogurt and pickles. Not together, LOL. AM On Behalf Of Laura Wingfield Wednesday, June 21, 2006 1:07 PM Re: After School Treats Hi there, I don't have kids yet (expecting my first) but i am a teacher. Guest guest
To Laura Thank you for the encouragement. It is VERY challenging to provide healthy meals, snacks, lunches for kids. My kids are always saying how their friends have treats every day in their lunch box and they don't. Although, I don't feed them a steady diet of chocolate bars and goodies like these, they STILL are busy and moving all over the place!!! I don't want to sedate them, but if anyone has any ideas regarding my VERY active five year old in terms of diet that would be good. She loves to graze, etc. Laura Wingfield <Laura.Wingfield wrote: Hi there, I don't have kids yet (expecting my first) but i am a teacher. Guest guest
I work in a residential A & D treatment center. Our very young kids go to day care during the week. This particular day care is very well known for their outstanding care of children. My biggest surprise is how much sugar, especially chocolate, that they feed the kids during snacks. A lot of our kids are already affected by A & D not to mention emotional problems as a result of neglect etc. Then they get " home " from day care hopped up on sugar. We've had some real temper tantrums after day care. It's awful. Sam To Laura Thank you for the encouragement. It is VERY challenging to provide healthy meals, snacks, lunches for kids. Guest guest
A & D = ? You'd think the day care would know better! Samantha Lea <saml wrote: I work in a residential A & D treatment center. Beth “The right adult at the right time can make an enormous difference. Many kids have a history of difficult, disappointing relationships and one good relationship--one person who is there for them--can make a huge difference.” -Jean E.
