Guest guest
Hi everyone, I got to this group through a post on the VegPeople forum and I'm always glad for more support. I was a vegetarian for 9 years in my 20's, then went off and came back to it about 6 months ago. For the last month I've gone vegan and I love it so far. I started off having to lose 30 pounds and did that with mostly lowcarb dieting (not vegetarian). Then I went off for a year and went back to vegetarianism and made bad choices, so gained backk 15 of those pounds. Then I went lowcarb vegetarian (yes, it can be done!) and lost half of that weight but I felt I wasn't eating healthy - high fat (about 70% of my diet was fat), lots of full-fat dairy and eggs and coffee with cream. I was starting to feel not good physically so I decided to go vegan and get off the lowcarb, since I knew doing lowcarb vegan would be too much. Right now, I keep my diet mostly to vegetables (lots of veggies!), fruit, legume, some grains (because I knew if I don't keep the servings down It'll backfire on me), some fat (mostly olive oil and occasionally an ounce of nuts or half a small avocado). The first few weeks I gained 2.5 pounds which put me in a panic (lifetime weight obsessor here...) but I realized it was because I had just gotten off of lowcarbing and my body was ajusting to the new diet and sure enough, I weighed in this morning after a week of not weighing and I am back down to what I was before I went vegan. I'd still like to lost the rest of the weight I gained (about 8 pounds). I'm hoping for some great lowfat recipes and some support, as I'm going next week to the Bay Area to visit with family (none of whom are vegan and love to eat!) and then I'm coming back to Texas with my parents to pack up and move to South Dakota. So for about a month and a half, I'll really have to watch what I'm eating. I realize I'll be eating more processed food (though I'm determined to stay away from the junk food!) and eating out a lot more, but I really want to watch what I'm eating and not gain back the pounds I've lost and then some. In August, I plan to really get back to my healthy eating habits and hopefully I'll be at my goal weight by the time school starts (grad school). That's it for me.
