Guest guest
Pat, I tried the black bean brownies. This was the maiden voyage. The taste is great and it is nice to have a low fat healthier dessert with this gall bladder diet that I am on. However, I would try doing a few things differently: 1. The box called for a 9 X 13 inch pan--I would put it in a 9 X 9 inch pan so the batter is less spread out. 2. I used a glass baking pan, baked them at 325 F in my convection oven [you always reduce the temperature by 25 degrees in a convection oven--normal baking temperature would be 350 F. I want to try a metal pan. The glass may have overcooked them slightly. For one thing, they continue to cook a long time after you remove them from the oven. 3. I want to try making them from scratch with the canned beans. I have a basic recipe that uses cocoa [to which you add eggs & oil] which I have figured out is what those expensive mixes are made from. 4. Eventually I want to cook the beans, too, from scratch. However, those of us who are bakers know that it is all about the proportions, so I will need to do a little experimenting. If and when I come up with a " scratch " recipe, I will post it. My husband, who is diabetic, hung around until they cooled so he could have a taste. I have forwarded the recipe to one of my staff who is a chocoholic and a vegetarian. She is a great baker and is always trying new ways of making traditional American sweets healthier. For my birthday she made me an orange chiffon cake [from scratch, of course] that she served with fresh strawberries -- it was divine tasting. Wish I could, but not possible :-( Best love, Pat
