Guest guest
Welcome to Vegetarian Health and Slimming! You say: > I just began to eat Complex Carb, Low-fat Vegetarian approximately 2 weeks ago. Congratulations on being a brand-new vegetarian! Wonderful decision for you and for your health. This is one you won't regret evere! And you say you'd like 'some tips on balancing the missing protein (iron?) from just grains, dairy, fruits & veggies.' Okay, can do, except that there aren't any 'missing' proteins in a vegetarian diet - veggies are a great source! It's just that you get them in a different and better way ;-) To start off easy, you could look at the following: The Vegan Society UK has a great site at http://www.vegansociety.com/html/food/nutrition/protein.php (and see their links (upper rh corner of window) to other info re calcium, iron, vit B12 etc.) Also go to http://www.vegsoc.org/info/protein.html (includes comparison chart re best sources) and http://www.vegsoc.org/info/vitmineral.html for food sources of vitamins and minerals. And when you've worn those out, try our Links (on our homepage) Go directly to: vegetarianslimming/links/ and then scroll down to the folder marked Health, Nutrition and Fitness Information you will find lots more. Anything you need to know, just ask. But as long as you're eating lots of fresh vegetables - a wide variety - some fruit, plus whole grains, lentils or beans, etc each day you should have no trouble. Since you're lacto-vegetarian (the mozzarella gave it away LOL) you would also pick up some protein from low-fat dairy, but go easy on that. It's not difficult, really, and you'll quickly get the hang of it. And you'll be healthier too - and yes, if you go easy on the dairy you will also lose weight, as long as you don't replace it with other fattening things. Anyway, write in often, ask lots of questions - that's what we're here for - and good luck! Best love, Pat (Co-owner with Piers) P.S. Hope I got that right LOL Very early in the morning! :-(
