Vegetarianism/Hospitals

Putting on my nurses cap...

 

The hospital where I work and eat dinner has a steam table in the

cafeteria with several vegetables every night. They look so pale and

worn out, and were probably prepared 12 hours earlier. I usually opt

for the salad bar. The kitchen crew knows that I'm vegetarian and that

I'm going to ask questions about ingredients in prepared dishes. If a

patient were to ask for a veg meal, she/he would get a vegetable plate

with some fruit. That's the extent of the dieticians' knowledge of

vegetarianism, and I'd bet that they don't know what vegan means. I try

to educate as much as I can, to those willing to listen.
