Guest guest Posted February 4, 2002 Report Share Posted February 4, 2002 one way to enhance gravy powder * Exported from MasterCook * Vegan Gravy / Rose Elliot's Recipe By :Rose Elliot Serving Size : 6 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Condiments Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 onion -- chopped 2 tablespoons whole-wheat flour 4 teaspoons gravy powder (meat free) -- see tip 2 garlic cloves -- minced 2 1/2 cups water 1 tablespoon soy sauce salt black pepper Heat oil in a medium saucepan, then add the flour and stir for a few minutes until the flour becomes nut brown in color. Remove from the heat and stir in the gravy powder and garlic. Return to the heat and gradually add the water, stirring all the time, until thick and smooth. Add soy sauce, salt and pepper. REVIEWER'S VARIATIONS: try adding a diced red pepper (or a handful of cashew nuts), slices of mushroom and a dash of red wine. TIP - Do not use gravy granules. Read the ingredients of the gravy powder to check it is meat free.
