Cut squash in half, then peel it and remove the seeds. Cut squash into 1-inch cubes (you should have about 4 cups). Place cubes into a large pot with the water. Add soy sauce and syrup. Cover and simmer over medium heat for 15 to 20 minutes, or until squash is tender when pierced with a fork.
