Kasha and Bowties

8 ounces bowtie pasta

2 cups kasha (buckwheat groats)

1 egg -- lightly beaten

2 medium onions -- chopped

2 cups stock or water

salt and pepper -- to taste

1/4 cup oil

 

Prepare kasha per package directions. Stew onions in water and oil until golden

brown, about 5 - 7 minutes. Set aside.

 

Add beaten egg to kasha. Add a dash of salt and pepper. Add stewed onion

mixture and cook over a low flame for 5 minutes. Remove from burner and add

stock or water. Return mixture to burner and continue to cook over a low heat

until tender, about 10 - 15 minutes.

 

Prepare bowties as directed on package. After they are cooked, drain and rinse

with cold water and mix with kasha.
