Caramelized Onion Torte

Recipe By :Regina Campbell

Serving Size : 4 Preparation Time :0:00

Categories : Main Dishes Season 5

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

-------- ------------ --------------------------------

1 frozen pie crust

2 sweet yellow onions -- thinly sliced

vegetable broth

1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

1 tablespoon butter (optional)

6 eggs -- beaten

1/2 cup cream

(or half-and-half or evaporated milk)

1/2 cup Gruyere cheese -- grated

salt

pepper

1. Pre-bake the pie crust according to package instructions.

2. In a medium skillet, place the onions, vinegar, salt and pepper (to taste),

and enough vegetable broth to simmer them in. Cook until the onions have

softened and the broth has mostly evaporated. When finished cooking, add the

butter (optional) and stir until it has melted. Place this mixture into the

pre-baked pie crust.

3. In a separate bowl, combine the eggs and cream. Pour this over the onions.

Top with the cheese and move the contents of the pie around gently with a fork

to evenly distribute them.

4. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes until the top is golden.
