Prem Nagar Pea Soup

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

3 tablespoons sesame oil

2 cups dried split peas -- to 3

2 times as much water -- to 3 times

2 carrots -- diced

2 onions

2 cloves garlic -- mashed

1 stalk celery

1 bay leaf

1/4 teaspoon cayenne -- to 1/2 tsp

2 tablespoons tamari soy sauce

1 tablespoon ground cumin -- heaping

1 tablespoon chili powder

salt and pepper -- to taste

toasted sesame seeds

1/2 teaspoon ground coriander

 

Pour the oil in your soup pot. When it's hot add the onion and

garlic.When these are soft add the cumin,chili powder, tamari, and

cayenne. Stir until the spices give he mixture a nice aroma. Add the

peas and water. Simmer until the peas are soft and the mixture is

thick. Add more water if you have to. Top with ground toasted sesame

seeds.

NOTES : I prefer this version of pea soup over the more all-american

varieties. Served with dumplings, it just can't be beat.Corn brad

ain't too bad either.
