A Fail Safe Headache/Hangover/Upset Stomach/etc Cure

Recipe By : Heart of the Home, Ann Jackson (1995) p31

Serving Size : 1 Preparation Time :0:00

Categories : Beverages

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

-------- ------------ --------------------------------

1 tablespoon kudzu

1 cup cold water

touch of tamari

1 umboshi plum or pit

fresh ginger

- best for colds only

Dissolve the kudzu into the cold water and put over medium heat. Stir

very slowly with a wooden spoon, just to keep the lumps out. Watch

closely, when it turns from a watery, milky liquid to a thickened

transparent stuff it's done. This is pretty subtle, but you're

watching you'll notice. Pour into a cup and add 1 or 2 tsp tamari,

according to your taste. Now add an umboshi plum. I usually use the

meat of the plum in a sauce or sushi and put the pit back in the jar

to use for this reason. So use the whole plum or just the pit, which

ever you want.

If you have a cold add between 1 tsp and 1 tbsp fresh grated ginger

juice. This depends on how big your cup is and if it's for an adult

or child, etc. This won't stop you cold, but it will help your

throat, chest, nose and all that other good stuff. Chances are if you

haven't been eating dairy products, you won't catch a cold.

This is really a wonder drink and I've seen it cure some real dillies.

PS It helps to suck on the umboshi pit after you've finished the

drink. If you can't find umboshi plums at your health food store (or

the ones you find are too expensive) look in a little oriental

market. Even the tiniest, funkiest ones usually have these at a much

cheaper price.
