Carrot Dogs

Recipe By : Heart of the Home, Ann Jackson (1995) p64

Serving Size : 1 Preparation Time :0:00

Categories : Burgers Grill

Vegetables

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

-------- ------------ --------------------------------

8 medium carrots -- to 10

Glaze:

2 tablespoons honey -- to 3

1 teaspoon grated ginger root

1/2 stick margarine

1 tablespoon tamari soy sauce

barbecue sauce -- optional

Cut the end of each carrot. If it's a big fat one cut it in half.

Steam the carrots lightly until they are soft or until about 3/4 done.

Combine glaze ingredients in small, heated sauce pan. When melted,

remove from heat.

If you are cooking outdoors lay carrots on the grill and brush with

glaze, barbecue sauce, or whatever marinade you choose. Turn

occasionally and brush when needed. When these are golden (it won't

be easy to tell since they're already orange) they're done. Just use

your nose.

You can also wrap these in aluminum foil and cook in your fireplace,

or put on a cookie sheet and put under the broiler in the oven. Put

these in buns and have all the trimmings ready. chili, onions,

relish, mustard, tomatoes, sauerkraut.

NOTES : If you have never taken advantage of this alternative then

please do so. Carrot dogs are real easy and they are a good, cheap

food to cook out. They don't crumble and fall in the fire, and even

burned they taste great.
