Long-grain brown rice may be substituted, which only needs to cook for 30 minutes. Rinse and drain the rice. Bring the water to a boil in a covered pot. Add the salt. Add the rice, cover, and reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer for 45 minutes, or until tender. Drain in a sieve.
