Tomato Apple Chutney

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

5 pounds tomatoes -- peeled, diced

6 cups diced pared tart apples

2 large onions -- chopped

1 pom seedless raisins

2 cloves garlic -- minced

1 pound dark brown sugar

1 tablespoon salt

2 teaspoons chile powder or flakes

1 tablespoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon allspice

1/2 teaspoon ginger

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

2 cups cider vinegar

 

Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil over high heat,

stirring constantly. Cover, simmer 10 minutes. Uncover. Simmer, stirring often,

30 minutes longer or until thick. Ladle into hot sterilized sealers and seal.

 

Yield: 6 pints (approx.)
