Guest guest Posted June 16, 2001 Report Share Posted June 16, 2001 * Exported from MasterCook * Swedish Brown Beans (Bruna Bonor) Recipe By :Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone, Deborah Madison Serving Size : 4 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Vegetarian Cooking for Everyon Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 1/2 cups Swedish brown peas or navy beans -- soaked 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 2 tablespoons blackstrap molasses 1 tablespoon brown sugar 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar Simmer the peas in 6 cups of water, covered, until they're partially tender, about an hour. Add the remaining ingredients and cook until very soft, another 30 minutes or so. When finished, the sauce should be brown and thick. If the beans are tender but the sauce is thin, raise the heat and boil, uncovered, to reduce the amount of liquid. If there isn't enough liquid, add a little water to thin it out.
