Broiled Tofu in Sweet Ginger Marinade

1 pound firm tofu

2 tablespoons minced fresh ginger

4 cloves crushed garlic

1/2 cup tamari soy sauce

1/3 cup Sucanat

1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil

1/2 teaspoon dry mustard

 

These tasty slices of tofu can also be made into a knockout sandwich.

(On whole-grain bread.

 

Begin by pressing the tofu. Place it on a plate and cover it with a

baking sheet or similar flat object. Place a book or other heavy

object on top of the baking sheet and let stand at least 20 minutes.

 

Stir together the ginger, garlic, soy sauce, 3/4 cup of water,

Sucanat, sesame oil, and mustard.

 

Cut the pressed tofu into 1/4-inch-thick slices and arrange it in a

single layer in a 13x9-inch baking dish. Pour the marinade over it.

Marinate 30minutes or longer.

 

Preheat the broiler. Place the pan of marinated tofu directly under

the broiler and broil until bubbly and brown, about 5 minutes on each

side.
