Guest guest
Looking for information on bike helmets for little ones, and bike trailers and safety ... I just found this very useful website with many interesting articles on bicycle helmets and safety. http://www.helmets.org/little1s.htm Not at first glance directly related to vegetarianism. Then again, maybe it is ... if you recall our recent discussion on this list regarding the link between cars and animal products! Guest guest
A good reputable bike shop will be able to help you fit your little one with a helmet (ie a local cycle shop, preferably one you can find that comes highly recommended - we have one that I refuse to go to or buy anything from because I am pretty sure that they switched out my brakes and wanted me to pay them to fix it - I went in for a very minor adjustment, not even related to it, and my bike was unrideable when I left - and I had been out on the bike the whole day, so I'd have known if they were not working properly.). Anyway, the helmets for smaller kids have more head coverage. They *should* be able to also show you how to make sure it fits properly (it should sit at the top of the head, the front of it should be about half down the forehead. The back of the helmet should be longer for a little kid, so it covers more of the total head (adults and older kid helmets work differently, and when worn properly should also fit about halfway down on your head, the adjuster thing should be under the rounded part of the back of your head - if that makes any sense). Kozy's is good if you have them out by you (they are a chain, but I don't know the coverage, but they are very good, and helpful).Maybe find a fellow biker, or look for cycling clubs and ask around for a good shop to go to (or find some online,as folks may know something You should also check your local laws for cycling with infants, as in some states it is not legal for children under a year to be on a bike (yes, even in a trailer). Where we are the laws say they should be able to sit unassisted/hold up head unassisted if under a year. Different cities/countries/states have different laws regarding cycling in general, too. As for the trailer, they are all pretty much very similar. We have one that's about 2 years old (we got it for our first winter biking (well, biking into winter, but not over winter with our son). It is the one from I think it was maybe Target for $99. We researched it and it had exactly the same standards as one at a local bike shop that was selling for $300. Nothing was different about it other than the color/brand. We've seen some pretty fancy ones at our local bike shop.
