Guest guest
Paul, We don't have a microwave. When my son was about 18 mos we moved. The microwave didn't and we were without. My parents were horrified and promptly purchased one as a gift. However I assured them we would be a-okay without one. And for the last 5 years we have been. Now, I do not miss it at all, but perhaps that is simply because I do not remember how convenient it was. I work full time so it is often a struggle to get supper on the table. Especially a healthy supper. I do however use my crockpot occasionally and last wek I began using the rice cooker my mother gave me as a gift. (I had no intention of using it because it has a teflon inside but missed the return deadline) I also have a dishwasher now after years of not having one so I guess it just depends on where you are at. I don't feel good about using a microwave or especially about having one in the house. However, we spend the summers with my parents and they do microwave certain foods (poatatoes before they barbeque them, for example) which my son eats. So...that's where I'm at for now. Guest guest
Hi Paul, We got rid of our microwave seven years ago. We'd heard a lot about nutrients being destroyed by cooking in it, as well as the danger of radiation. We then met a chef who prepared great vegan meals, and he said he refused to use one for the above reasons as well as taste. The adjustment at first was difficult. We definitely create a lot more dishes with out the microwave and it takes longer to prepare things. But on the flip side, we think the food tastes better cooked on or in the stove. And hopefully we're getting more nutrients from it (but I don't really know the validity of that). Guest guest
Hi Ours could probably do with replacing (30 yrs old) but other than losing some power over the last three years it seems to work just fine. I only use it for defrosting and reheating - 99% of what I cook is from scratch and done in the oven or on the stovetop. Guest guest
We replace ours every 5-6 years. The seals can get bad, causing leakage. We take the old one to an electronics recycling center. Guest guest
Hi Problem is, it's part of a double-oven unit so we'd probably end up having to replace both parts. It works well for what we use it for. Maggie
