Guest guest
Thanks for sharing all your " talking points " . I have talked with my daughter about why we don't eat animal products. Cheese is probably the hardest to understand because so many of her friends eat large quantities of it! Cow's milk is not a problem because she genuinely likes soy milk and may never have even tasted cow's milk except as an infant in China. I've explained that mommy and baby cows mostly are separated so that the milk can go to people and that we don't want to keep the mommies and babies apart. We have visited a local farm that raises animals (organically and fairly decently) and we have talked about the fact that the animals she loves to watch will be killed for someone's food and that we don't eat that way. But I have refrained from talking about the killing of animals in front of other children or families. Its a hard path sometimes because we have friends who once were vegetarians or who have all the right environmental politics but still eat some meat and I feel its their choice although I also feel that by not speaking up more in defense of the suffering of animals or the health consequences of eating animal products that I am not taking an opportunity to make a positive impact. We are so fringey already! Good to have this list and a few veggie friends with kids. Thanks! Bea
