Yup, it's that time of year, and I can't find my notes

on books recommended by VRGfamily list members

previously. One of my children has a birthday in a

couple of weeks, and the usual birthday " tradition " at

the school is to bring a book to read, then donate it

to the class library: I'd love to be able to bring a

Thanksgiving- & -vegetarian-themed book!

Oh, this would be for 4-5 year olds, so I'm looking

for a picture book rather than a chapter book.

Thanks in advance,

Liz

Here are our favorite picture books:

A Turkey for Thanksgiving by Eve Bunting. Mr. Turkey thinks that it will be

a " traditional " Thanksgiving, until he discovers his friend Mr. Moose invited

him TO

dinner, not FOR dinner. It's full of cute animals images and has a special

friendship based message for us all. Not preachy at all.

'TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE THANKSGIVING by Dav Pilkey (to the rhythm of the

original; kids

take a field trip to a turkey farm, realize what's really going on, and

smuggle the turkeys out). Don't be confused, there's another book by the same

name, by a female

author, with a *very* different ending.
