Guest guest
Una, I just went through this. My ferritin (which refers to stored iron) was 20.6. Normal range is 15-300. Huge range, eh? My ND thought mine was way too low, even though I wasn't tired. I started taking a product called Solgar Gentle Iron, vegetable capsules in the afternoons before dinner with a vitamin C tablet and a full glass of water (maybe more). I've read to take it on an empty stomach to absorb it best. Make sure to take it away from any calcium supplements or foods. Calcium binds to iron. I didn't have any adverse reaction to taking iron. I was able to get my ferritin up to 57 at last test. Now I'm taking Iron every other day or so. A good way to remember to take it is to get out all of your supplements in the morning, or the night before. Put them into different containers (small bowls or empty bottles) for morning, afternoon and after dinner. Set them out on the counter so you will see them. Calcium (if you take it) is best taken in small doses. I've read that we absorb it best over night. I hope this helps! Good luck!
