Guest guest
I'm curious whether anybody (and their kids) are taking a DHA dietary supplement, like O-Mega-Zen3, made from microalgae? There seems to be some genuine concern that vegetarians and vegans don't get enough DHA because the human body may be unable to synthesize adequate amounts of DHA from ALA (Omega 3 fatty acid sources like flaxseeds). This all sounds very technical, and I'm not a nutritionist. But here is a short, easy to read reference that provides the basic background: http://www.vegfamily.com/brenda-davis/tip4.htm The general idea is that non-veg*ns get their DHA by eating fish that have eaten algae. So veg*ns need to go directly to the original source and eat the algae. Because algae tastes and smells (IMHO) really bad, the best way to get it may be taking a highly concentrated tablet a couple times each week, or mixing some liquid drops into a drink that masks the taste. - Alan
