Guest guest
Yeah, and I am so embarassed that my BIL is a university football coach. Of course, only my husband and myself seem to have this problem. Maybe we can get a large group from these sites together and form our own community. I would say LOL but I'm not altogether kidding! Social services works differently everywhere. They must have a reason but it can be flimsy in most cases. Flimsy excuses are generally just what gets them in your door to find something else. That's why it is important to know your rights about letting them in. I have a good website but can't access my files at the moment. If you want it, I'll post it when word quits freaking out on me. I have been told (unverified) that making a false report in FL is now a criminal act. Before, anyone could turn you in for untrue accusations. So, I think things are better than when my Grandmother fostered. But, I still hear about the odd case that just wasn't justified. I can't remember which site, but there was a recent discussion on how a SAD is considered okay, even if the children are obese and have health problems. But, if a particular social worker found out your kid is veg, watch out - s/he could take your kid away until you proved, at your expense, that your child wasn't going to suffer. And you may have to sign contrcts stating you will feed meat etc in order to keep your child. This doesn't happen often but there are some reports. I've also read about this happening to disabled single mothers because they are in wheelchairs. I'm sure there is more to the story as you can't always believe everything you read. I don't worry too much but I make sure I am armed with knowledge and references when I go to the pede, etc. because of my tangential experience. (My grandmother once fostered a lovely teenage girl who ran away from home twice because her mother wouldn't let her date. The boy in question was a very nice young man as well. The courts took her away from her mother because she ran away and then also said she couldn't date the guy because her mom said so. Well, she just dated him " behind " every one's back. They have been married for years now, both graduated college, made a career in the armed forces and have seen two boys through high school. Why was she put into foster care? Why couldn't she continue to " not date " this boy in her mother's care and live with her sisters and the rest of her family?) I called CPS multiple times on my cousin and his wife for various things like feeding him powdered milk instead of formula, neglect, and other things, and while they did check into the situation they never did take him for any length of time. Talk about freaking out- as well taken care of as my kids are I'd turn into a t-rex if that happened. Guest guest
Absolutely ridiculous! I'd love to see parents get fined or something for letting their children become obese. I saw a little girl once at Wal-Mart, maybe three years old, absolutely huge. Her parents should have been fed to a tiger!! That child will be overweight all her life unless she re-learns how to eat. Why is that okay?? It always drove me crazy in middle school P.E., when the heavy kids were allowed to walk while the rest of us ran. Not helping. Guest guest
i think allowing a child to become obese most definitely SHOULD be considered abuse or neglect. there's a little 3 y/o in our complex who probably weighs 100 pounds. i see her family buying food in albertson's all the time (yes i shop at albertson's since we have no car -- it sucks!), and they usually have TWO carts full of food and it's hard for me to not look at what they're buying...fried chicken, six or seven of those economy-size bags of sugaed cereals, 3 or 4 12-packs of soda, frozen hungry man dinners, frozen pizzas, not a green vegetables to be seen anywhere...they are killing that poor little girl. she doesn't even stand a chance.
