change in attitude shown in article for kids

My third grader is bringing home a 4-page Time

magazine for kids every Friday from school. The

September 8th (Vol. 12, No. 2) edition had a picture

of a baby elephant between his/her mom's legs and the

cover headline " Out of the Wild: Life at the zoo is

not best for all beasts. " Inside, the one-page

article is titled " Who Belongs in the Zoo? " and talks

a little bit about the growing awareness that some

animals in particular are not well served by being in

zoos. It also references the importance of protecting

wildlife in their natural habitats. It's written for

the mainstream, so obviously it doesn't say as much as

we would like, but I think it does represent that

public perception is shifting.

 

Figured it would be nice to share a small but positive

step in the right direction from an unexpected source.

i saw that article! i keep a file for my kids for when they get older and i

cut that out. i thought it was pretty good, ya know, for time.
