If babies were lactose intolerant from birth, they would not be able to drink human breast milk, the milk specifically made for them, which contains lactose. Guest guest Posted September 17, 2006 Report Share Posted September 17, 2006 this should probably just be amended to, most people in the world are lactose intolerant upon weaning. it's only when we force our bodies to continue processing lactose that we continue creating the enzyme to digest it that rightfully should be gone once we aren't nursing anymore. and it's because so many people really DON'T create that enzyme properly that so many people are lactose intolerant and don't even know it (like the widely accepted medical belief that one of the leading undiagnosed causes of IBS is lactose intolerance).
