Guest guest
We're going to Atlanta next week? Are there any clean, vegan, nonAsian restaurants that you highly recommend based on your first-hand experience? Thanks!
Guest guest
We used to live in Atlanta and here are some of our favorites. http://www.cafesunflower.com/ Outstanding food. http://www.dekalbfarmersmarket.com/ All but a very few items are vegetarian in their cafe. You pay by the pound from the hot and cold buffet. You can mix as you wish. We love this place. http://www.dekalbfarmersmarket.com/restaurant.html http://www.ecomall.com/vegi/geo.htm Here is a list of lots of Vegetarian rest. We love the Indian Delights on Church St. They just got a new owner however and it is much hotter food. http://www.vegetarianusa.com/city/AtlantaRestaurants.html another good list of restaurants. http://www.rainbowgrocery.com/ This place has a small cafe, but has great food. I used to work nearby this place and ate there often. Souper Salads 770-955-5726 2945 Cobb Pky NW Atlanta GA 30339 Most everything on their salad bar is vegetarian and they always have vegetarian soup option. Big variety of items. We enjoy this place. This location in in the NW corner of Atlanta, just south of the Galleria mall. Enjoy, Judy - admartin5 Friday, August 11, 2006 7:39 AM Vegan Restaurants in Atlanta We're going to Atlanta next week? Guest guest
These are a few places I can think of. I lived in Atlanta for a while and visit several times a year since in-laws live there. If I think of more, I'll let you know. There are many, many vegetarian places that you can call to ask about vegan options. Café Sunflower. Very nice! A sit down and wait type of place with good service and a pleasant atmosphere. I have only eaten at the Sandy Springs location. R. Thomas Deluxe Grille eat Does have many live caged birds. Seating is outdoor screened patio. Vegan, macrobiotic, organic, veg, non-veg. Very Good! If you like dessert, ask before you place your order. They are great but limited in quantity. You need to order the dessert with the meal to be sure you get one. The Flying Biscuit Café www.flyingbiscuit.com has been in numerous magazines. Nice but be prepared for only one or two vegan options and several veg options out of an omni menu. Soul Vegetarian – I have yet to eat here but this is a very famous veg place in Atlanta. They have expanded to two or three locations now. (If you are going to be in Athens, go to The Grit. We really enjoyed it. My DH is a vegan that doesn't like veggies and I like a rounded meal. Great desserts!) Faster food Moe's Southwest – originated in Atlanta. Tofu, rice and beans are vegan. Like a Subway but burritos and tacos. I have always gotten very large burritos here. Has website. Mellow Mushroom http://www.mellowmushroom.com/– this is an Atlanta classic! A couple of hippies from the 1970's created this pizza place in Sandy Springs (actually the second location). They eventually opened several other stores in the Atlanta area in the 90's and then sold franchises in the SE. If you go, be sure to go to the Sandy Springs store as it has been sold and they are changing the décor soon!!! It is funky and somewhat of a dive. They know the term vegan. You can get vegan pizzas and pretzels. You can get ingredients like sprouts and tofu on your pizza. Just be sure to specify vegan. They will bring you more marinara for dipping the pretzels. Love it! (If dinig with vegetarians, they have a famous white pizza.) Atlanta Bread Co. – makes their own bread and has sandwich shops all over. They usually have at least one vegan bread and you can make substitutions to create a vegan sandwich. Was a very nice experience last time I ate there with many omnis. Everything's Linked food court in Perimeter Mall- Ashford Dunwoody Rd Has been several years since I've been there but I really enjoyed it. Healthy choices, vegan and other options. Tofu cheesecake. You may want to call and see if they are still there. Sweet Tomatoes - They are a soup/salad/bread/dessert bar. They have a master ingredients book that they will let you look through. Was only okay - I haven't been back but would go if had difficulty finding place that omnis wanted to go. Omnis seem to like it a lot. Deli/café style There are several Whole Foods. They and many of the Health Food Stores have a deli (Rainbow, Return to Eden, etc.) If you like raw food, Life Grocery in Marietta has a raw and cooked café. Caution: they sometimes include honey in their vegan dishes. Be sure to ask. Nuts & Berries (HFS takeout) I ate here once many years ago and remember it being good. Vegan options. Not pure vegetarian. sevannada http://www.sevananda.coop/retailer/store_templates/shell_id_1.asp? storeID=C5G13S77A6GB8P0JT1P2Q4XBHR8BFXX2 An all vegetarian HFS. I have shopped here but haven't eaten at the deli. I would imagine vegan options would be available. http://www.dekalbfarmersmarket.com – great place to buy fresh produce. They have staples as well. Their prices are not any better than the local HFS or Whole Foods but they have the largest variety of fresh organic and conventional produce under one roof (now that Harry's has been bought by Whoe Foods). I was here about 3 weeks ago and had difficulty getting vegan prepared food in the deli/rest. They have vegetarian options though. I found a fennel-apple salad that was really good! Harry's Farmer's Market used to have a great selection of produce. It has been bought by Whole Foods. The last time I went there, it looked very similar to Whole Foods. Used to be a great place to go but I haven't been in years. I can't comment on the prepared food any longer. It is across the street from Life Grocery (HFS and deli mentioned above) Can see more options with reviews at www.happycow.net/north_america/usa/georgia/atlanta www.vegetarian-restaurants.net/usa/GeoAtlanta.htm http://www.vegdining.com/GetRestList.cfm Carrol PS If you have followed the aquarium thread, you know that you can email or call them about meal options. They said they have a book like Sweet Tomatoes. No outside food allowed. They will take it from you when they search you at entrance - see thread or their website. , <admartin5 wrote: > > We're going to Atlanta next week?
